Plagiarism
what does plagiarism mean ? Plagiarism means to steal and pass on as one's own the work of another, as it’s mentioned in Merriam Webster's students dictionary. Due to the great communications improvements, especially the internet, plagiarism became a crime done by two clicks “copy – paste” .
Plagiarists use this way to skip working on a research , assignment , homework , etc . But they neglect the huge bad effect which could affect to the whole nation. It does not look so bad when a student , who is usually uses Plagiarism , copies a research and submits it to their teacher , but if everyone did the same thing , no knowledge will be added , therefore , the same amount of knowledge remains the same. After some time, other nations will advice and this nation will stay where it was . And here , where schools , universities , colleges or any educational institutions should fight this “disease” , and plant the spirits or the desire to learn the new things in their minds , hearts and consciences .
And yet , the law protected the authors from those plagiarists . Royal Decree 65/2008 , gives the protection the real the authors need from the fake ones . And the range of protection is wide , according to that Royal decree every book , mini-book , article , computer programs , lecture , speech , music , dancing , acting , video , painting , printing on rocks or textile, photos , handcraft …etc.
All those are protected by the law . Due to the importance of this issue law is restrict about it. That’s obvious to the maximum fine the law has mentioned in this Royal decree which is 10,000 Rials Omani.
For the last thought , not everyone who copies from someone else consider as a plagiarist. When an idea is very common to the world and many have heard it before , we can’t say that idea has got “plagiarized” . Only the unique art , idea , research or something totally new are subject to be protected from plagiarism .
